The Topaz Solar Electric Power Plant recently surpassed the Ivanpah Solar Electric Generating System for the title of World’s largest Solar Power Plant.
Located on the northwestern corner of the Carrisa Plains in California the 550 megawatt Topaz Solar Farm will produce sufficient electricity to power 160,000 homes.
In addition, the plant also displaces 377,000 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) annually, the equivalent to taking 73,000 cars off the road. Another advantage of the Topaz project over the Ivanpah plant is the fact that all of it’s electricity production is done without the use of water.
First Solar is the company that brought forth this commendable effort to produce clean renewable energy that will surely justify more projects of this kind to be brought forth.
