Substation Testing and Maintenance II

Who Should Attend?

This course will be of benefit to technicians, supervisors, field engineers, apprentices and others who actually perform or are responsible for the maintenance, testing and evaluation of the most common types of substations devices.

Course Description:

Participants will perform the maintenance and testing required for common substation devices, including enclosed air disconnect switches, air, vacuum and oil circuit breakers, ground grid systems, batteries & chargers and capacitors. This hands-on, practical-based course focuses on what to do, when to do it, how to interpret the results from testing and maintenance and the actual test procedure required. Minimal time will be spent on theory in order to allow more testing time in lab.

Learning Objectives:

• Review of current industrial substation safety requirements.
• Explain the various maintenance and testing requirements on both overhead and enclosed air disconnect switches.
• How to inspect and perform typical manufacture required maintenance on air, vacuum and oil circuit breakers.
• How to perform the various tests required on air, vacuum and oil circuit breakers.
• Evaluate circuit breaker test data and make typical adjustments.
• Explain the various maintenance and testing requirements used to determine serviceability of substation batteries.
• Explain how to evaluate substation ground grid condition.
• Explain the various maintenance and testing requirements used to determine serviceability of substation capacitors.

Prerequisites:

• Basic understanding and working knowledge of fundamentals of electricity.
• Successful completion of Substation Testing and Maintenance I
